Sweden: tickets allocated to Catholics for Pope Francis’s trip to Malmö on 31st October sold out

The 5,000 tickets allocated to Catholics, who want to attend the event taking place in the afternoon of 31st October in Malmö Arena, as part of the joint celebration of the 500th anniversary of Lutheran reformation that will be attended by Pope Francis, have been sold out. In the morning of that day, the cathedral of Lund will host an ecumenical celebration officiated by the Pope and by the president of the Lutheran World Federation, Munib Younan. The celebration will be broadcast on large screens outside the cathedral. The two religious leaders will also attend the end of the event, which for 4 hours, starting at 01.30 pm, will be held in Malmö Arena, with “artists, films and stories with a message of hope and shared responsibility for the world”. The tickets started to be sold on 9th September, and, the day after, the website of the diocese of Stockholm said “they had been sold out”. Total seating places are 10 thousand, part of which sold through the Lutheran Federation, part by the Catholic Church as co-responsible for the event. Proceeds from the sales of the tickets (approximately 13€ each) will “go to the refugees from war-devastated Syria”, the website of the Swedish Council of Churches explains. The Pope will officiate a Catholic Mass in Malmö on 1st November at 09.30 am.
