WYD 2016: Fr. Remery (CCEE), “special atmosphere here in Krakow, full of excitement and prayer”

“The young people that I meet here in Krakow are joyful and full of expectations; they have an intense desire for God, and also a desire to see Pope Francis and listen to his teachings”. Dutch priest Fr. Michel Remery is Vice Secretary General of the Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE) and is following WYD live. “It is a great joy for me to be here these days”, he says. “There is a special atmosphere in the air: with the parties and celebrations typical of young people, but also silence and recollection; there is great excitement as well as a feeling of peace and mutual listening. Some of these young people who have come here from all over the world find their faith, while others experience it through the testimonies of their peers or the priests and bishops here present”. Fr. Remery tells SIR: “Even the Bishops are conquered by this youthful and fraternal atmosphere. They too are filled with great enthusiasm as they meet young people at the catechesis sessions and pass on their experiences of faith and humanity in return. It is a rich and fruitful exchange”.
