Czech Republic: over 6,000 young pilgrims heading for WYD

(Bratislava) – Over 6,000 young people from Bohemia and Moravia have registered to participate in World Youth Day (WYD) in Krakow. This number is the second highest in the history of the Czech Republic, with more than 30,000 regular followers of the national FB profile of the event. Most of them read articles associated with various aspects of the pontificates of Pope Francis and St. John Paul II, and seek practical information regarding participation at WYD. According to the national coordination team, it is estimated that around 20,000 young people from various European countries plan to stop in Prague on their way to Krakow these days, and the schedule of many of them includes an Eucharistic celebration in the “historical jewel” of the Czech Catholic Church – the Cathedral of Sts. Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adalbert. Over 130 Czech pilgrims have started their “bicycle pilgrimage” to Poland after having received a special blessing from Cardinal Dominik Duka, Archbishop of Prague, on Saturday. They view their journey as an “intense spiritual preparation”. Indeed, as they said moments before departure: “Physically speaking, a 700-kilometer-long pilgrimage may be rather tough, but we hope that at the peak of our abilities, we will be able to give a brand new impulse to our spirituality”.
