WYD Krakow: “Pilgrim’s App” ready for German youth

For the young German pilgrims who have already arrived in Poland, the beginning of the “Days of Encounter” in the Polish dioceses mark the unofficial start of the 31st World Youth Day. For the first time, a “Pilgrim’s App” will be available and accessible to them both online and offline. The app was developed by the “Research Centre for Youth Pastoral Care” of the German Bishops’ Conference (DBK) and was built with the support of the Renovabis Fund of Eastern Europe. “First of all, the app enables offline navigation during the meetings with Pope Francis”, a statement from the DBK reads. In other words, young pilgrims will be able to use the apps developed by the organisers of WYD Krakow as well as to use an effective mapping service to plan a real “digital pilgrimage”. The app provides information about WYD and the city of Krakow, prayers, daily spiritual readings and directions, as well as suggestions on how to reflect on the theme of mercy. Thanks to the app, not only will young people be able to look up words in a Polish-German dictionary – which will facilitate their communication -, but they will also be able to get real-time updates about all WYD events in Krakow (even those for non German speakers). At present, the app is only running on Android as announced by the DBK.
