WYD Cracow: 51 Spanish bishops going there with 30,500 young people. 60 “communicators” from Great Britain too

51 Spanish bishops will take 30,500 young pilgrims to Cracow from 26th to 31st July for the WYD. The youth pastoral service is completing the preparations for the meeting of all Spanish young people due “in Czestochowa on July 25th, the Day of St James, the patron saint of Spain”, writes the website of the Spanish bishops: card. Ricardo Blazquez, archbishop of Valladolid and president of the Spanish Bishops Conference, will officiate Mass with the Spanish bishops, followed by two hours’ celebrations. Before the WYD, 8,000 young Spanish will be living in Bochnia, approximately 30 kilometres from Cracow. The English bishops’ website too says that their young people are going to the WYD. Over 50 young people took a bus from the diocese of Westminster yesterday; another 80 are coming from the diocese of East Anglia. 30 young people of the diocese of Liverpool will take a flight tomorrow. “Leaving for this journey is the highlight in months of preparations and hard work, especially to raise funds for the journey”, the news service writes. The figures of British pilgrims include 60 “communicators” and journalists who will be in Cracow to cover the event on every media, mostly on social media. In late June, they experienced a one-day group workshop in preparation for the WYD, to learn “to make their voices heard amidst that crowd”.
