EU: Eurobarometer, citizens ask for actions against terrorism, unemployment and tax evasion

(Brussels) – “More EU actions to fight terrorism, unemployment and tax evasion, as well as more actions of the EU to solve the migration problem, to protect EU external borders, and to defend environment”. In that way, a note by the EU Parliament summarises the main results of a special survey published today by Eurobarometer. The survey was made out of a sample of 27,969 citizens interviewed from 9 to 19 April 2016. “Citizens were asked – says Eurobarometer – whether they were favourable or against new EU actions in fifteen subjects”. For thirteen themes out of fifteen areas taken into consideration, European citizens “wanted more active EU”. Following the sample of the survey, at present priorities are struggle against terrorism (82%) and unemployment (77%). 40% of EU citizens believe the risk of new terror attacks is high”. The three measures proposed by the European Parliament, which the interviewed “believe to be urgent are prevention against funding of terror organisations (42% of the sample); actions meant to uproot terrorism and radicalisation (41%); and strengthening control at the external borders of the EU (39%)”.
