Pope Francis: audience, “the faith of the Church is born at Cana”

“The wedding at Cana is much more than the simple story of Jesus’ first miracle”, because “it is at Cana that the faith of the Church is born”, Pope Francis told the 20,000 faithful gathered in St Peter’s Square for the Wednesday Audience. “The end of the story sounds like a judgement”, Pope Francis went on to say, citing the Gospel of John: “This, in Cana of Galilee, was the first of Jesus’ signs; He revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him”. “Like a casket”, Pope Francis said, Jesus “keeps the secret of His person and the purpose of His coming: the awaited bridegroom kick-starts the wedding which is fulfilled in the Paschal mystery”. “In this wedding, Jesus binds His disciples to Him with a new and definitive Covenant”, Pope Francis concluded. “At Cana, the disciples of Jesus become His family and the faith of the Church is born. We are all invited to that wedding, in which the new wine will never run short!”.
