Netherlands: 900 young people to the WYD in Poland. And a “miniature” World Youth Day in Delft

900 young Dutch people will attend the World Youth Day in Cracow. This figure has been posted on the website of the Dutch youth pastoral service, www.jongkatholiek.nl. Almost one half of the 12 Dutch bishops will be in Cracow: bishop Mutsaerts (auxiliary bishop of Den Bosch and delegate of the Bishops Conference for Youth), mgr. Van den Hende (bishop of Rotterdam), and mgr. Hendriks (auxiliary bishop of Haarlem-Amsterdam), who will also have to hold some events of catechesis, and then mgr. Woorts (auxiliary bishop of Utrecht), and mgr. De Jong (auxiliary bishop of Roermond), who will stay with the young people of their own dioceses. Before the international programme starts, the young Dutch people will have meetings and visits in Auschwitz and Prague. For those who cannot go to the WYD, the Dutch youth pastoral service offers a “miniature world youth day” or “gmg@home” in Delft, not far from The Hague. As it had happened before with the WYD in Rio, Delft will be hosting a three-day meeting to coincide with the last weekend of the Cracow calendar: it starts on Friday 29th July with a meal together and an introduction to the international theme, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy” (Mt 5,7). The next day will see events of catechesis and group discussions. The final celebration in Cracow on Sunday will be shown live, on a big screen, followed by a final lunch party.
