Pope Francis: no to “sensationalism”, yes to outcast “reinstatement”

“The Grace acting in us is not search for sensationalism”; on the other hand, “it usually moves with discretion, and with no clamour”. That is the first of the three teachings through which, at the end of the hearing, the Pope summarised the miracle of leper healing. “To heal our wounds and follow the holiness path – went on the Pope – Grace works with patience, modelling our heart on the heart of the Lord, in such a way that we assume more and more thoughts and feelings of the Lord”. “The priests make sure the leper is really and officially healed, they celebrate a sin offering, and the leper is re-admitted to the community of believers and social life”, pointed out Francis, speaking about the second teaching of this Gospel episode: “His reinstatement completes the healing. As he himself implored, now he is completely purified!”. Finally, “before the priests, the leper testifies about Jesus and His messianic authority”: “The power of compassion with which Jesus healed the leper – concluded the Pope – opened this man to faith and mission. He was excluded, but now he is one of us”.
