Europe Day: the floor to citizens and Christians at the site theeuropeexperience.eu (IXE)

(Brussels) “No State alone will ever find long-lasting solutions to any challenges such as migration, youth unemployment, economic ecological, social or financial crises. Inward-looking tendencies are easy temptations, equalling suicide”: Marianne, from France, is one of the ten persons taking the floor at www.theeuropeexperience.eu to express their trust in Europe, and to celebrate it today, 9 May 2016. On the occasion of the Europe Day, a new section at the site of European reflection by Initiative of Christians for Europe (IXE) has been opened. This site is the experience of collaboration of French Social Weeks and the Central Committee of German Catholics. At the new section, ten “Christians, either European citizens or people living in the European community” speak about their Europe as a response “to Euro-scepticism and growing populism, in an open and politically active way”. One of the persons explaining their experience, and answering the question “Why the European Union?” is Pope Francis; one part of his speech for the Charlemagne Award of last Friday, 6 May, is actually in there; Henryk speaks about the EU from the Polish point of view. There are also Franc, 84-year-old Slovenian nuclear physicist; Kathia, grown up in between Belgium and Germany; from Croatia, Neven writes that he has seen over 650 thousand refugees passing through, and “does not want to line up with countries refusing solidarity and sharing”.
