Comece: “Promoting peace in the world, Europe’s call”, a report in the run-up to the EU Council

(Brussels) “Today, the world has become more fragile and volatile. Europe is surrounded by a number of violent conflicts, and the EU neighbourhood is affected by political instability. One of the most pressing jobs the EU must address today is developing a global strategy for foreign and security policy”. This has been stated by Comece (Commission of EU Bishops Conferences), which has drawn up a report called “Promoting peace in the world, Europe’s call”, which the bishops adopted during their recent plenary meeting. It is above all the contribution that Comece intends to give to the heads of state and government of the 28 EU member states, who will have to address such issues at the European Council on June 23rd and 24th. “What role does the EU play in the global scenario? How to restore its fundamental commitment to peace?”: these are some of the questions that the document will try to answer, when it is presented at Comece’s HQ in Square de Meeûs 19, in Brussels.
