“After reflecting on God’s mercy in the Old Testament, today we begin to consider how Jesus Himself is the fulfilment of mercy”. Pope Francis said this at the beginning of his general audience today, starting a new series of catechesis on Jesus’ relationship with mercy. “Jesus is the incarnation of God’s mercy”, the Pontiff recalled. “A mercy that He has shown, lived and communicated always, in every moment of His earthly life”. By “meeting the crowds, proclaiming the Gospel, healing the sick, drawing close to the marginalised, forgiving the sinners”, Jesus made visible a love open to all, which excludes no one, a boundless love, a pure, free and absolute love, a love which is fulfilled on the cross”. “Yes, the Gospel is truly the Gospel of Mercy, because Jesus is Mercy!”, the Pope remarked.
