The 38 Albanian martyrs killed by the Communist regime between 1945 and 1974 will be beatified. Indeed, the promulgation of the decree recognising the martyrdom of the Servants of God Vincenzo Prennushi OFM, Archbishop of Durrës, and his 37 companions, was authorised by Pope Francis upon receiving in audience the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Card. Angelo Amato, this morning. The other decrees promulgated recognise a miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Alfonso Maria Fusco, diocesan priest and founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of St John the Baptist (1839-1910), and a miracle attributed to the intercession of the Venerable Servant of God Giovanni Sullivan, a professed Jesuit priest (1861-1933). The martyrdom of the Servants of God Giuseppe Antón Gómez and 3 companions – the Benedictine priests killed in 1936 – was also recognised alongside the heroic virtues of the Servants of God Tommaso Choe Yang-Eop (diocesan priest, 1821-1861); Sosio Del Prete (born Vincenzo, professed priest of the Order of Friars Minor and founder of the Congregation of the Little Servants of Christ the King, 1885-1952); Venanzio Katarzyniec (born Giuseppe, professed priest of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, 1889-1921); Maria Consiglio dello Spirito Santo (born Emilia Pasqualina Addatis, founder of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Our Lady of Sorrows, 1845-1900); Maria dell’Incarnazione (born Caterina Carrasco Tenorio, founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Third Order of St Francis of the Flock of Mary, 1840-1917); Maria Laura Baraggia (founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Family of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 1851-1923); Ilia Corsaro (founder of the Congregation of the Little Missionaries of the Eucharist, 1897-1977); and Maria Montserrat Grases García (laywoman, of the personal prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei, 1941-1959).
