Portugal: dioceses and movements towards the WYD. Mgr. Mendes, “reawakening faith”

The Portuguese National Council of the Youth Pastoral Service met in Fatima to continue the preparation to the World Youth Day, due to take place in Cracow from 26th to 31st July. “Step by step, we are strengthening our journey to the WYD: this Council is one further example of the way the dioceses and movements are being involved and are sharing the contents of the journey as well, in addition to the logistics”, the director of the National Department told the press. In particular, Father Edoardo Novo emphasised “young people’s great involvement” in the dioceses’ efforts for recruiting new people, “proving that everyone wants to give their active contribution of faith, which will materialise in Cracow”. “The cross of the new evangelisation is also being carried through all the dioceses, and the catechesis is being explored in the parishes, in youth groups, on our web page, on the social network Facebook, and through an application we are developing”, the director added. In chairing the Council, the delegate of the Bishops Commission of lay people and families, mgr. Joaquim Mendes, placed emphasis on the important meaning of taking part in the WYD, which is to “reawaken faith, to grow in ecclesial experience”.
