EU Commission: pan-European occupational safety and “healthy ageing” campaign

(Brussels) “Safe and healthy workplaces for all ages”: this is the name of the awareness-raising campaign launched by the European Commission and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (Eu-Osha), in partnership with the Dutch presidency of the EU. The two-year campaign, “the broadest in the world in the area, promotes sustainable work and workplace health and safety as part of active ageing, and reminds us that today’s young workers will be tomorrow’s old workers”. The campaign is focussed on European public and private companies and the “need to promote sustainable work and healthy ageing since the start of working life”. Lodewijk Asscher, spokesman for the Dutch presidency, emphasises “the need to make the work market sustainable in the long term”. That’s why the campaign aims at four goals: sustainable work and healthy ageing; importance or risk prevention; helping employers and employees by providing information and tools; easier sharing of information and good practices. The key dates of the campaign for the time being are: European health and safety weeks (October 2016 and 2017), “Safe and Healthy Workplaces” awards ceremony (April 2017). The campaign will end with a summit on healthy and safe workplaces (November 2017).
