“I once heard a beautiful saying: there is no saint without a past and no sinner without a future”, Pope Francis said speaking off the cuff during his general audience today. “This is beautiful, and this is what Jesus does”. “There is no saint without a past, no sinner without a future”, Pope Francis repeated. “The Church is not a community of the perfect – the Pope remarked – but a community of disciples on a journey, disciples who follow the Lord because they know they are sinners and in need of His forgiveness”. The Christian life is therefore “a school of humility which opens us to grace”.
