Netherlands: To Cracow WYD in a hot-air balloon. An idea of the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam

5 young people from the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam will have the option to get to the WYD in a hot-air balloon. The news has been given by the auxiliary bishop himself, mgr. Jan Hendriks, in a video posted on the diocese’s website. The flight will take off for Cracow on July 13th. The only thing for sure, according to the organisers, is that the hot-air balloon will arrive “at any rate on July 26th for the opening Mass of the World Youth Day”. Since the flight of the hot-air balloon “is not controllable, but depends on the direction and speed of the wind”, the schedule will include stopovers in Germany and Poland but the exact locations where the passengers will land and spend the night “are still unknown”. There will be a ground crew to provide technical support to this airborne pilgrimage, monitor the route and safety of the flight, and take the 5 young people to see the places of pilgrimage, where they will experience their preparation for the WYD. The flight will last about three hours a day, part in the morning and part in the evening. Registrations are open. The requirements are “flexibility to adapt to change”, not feeling dizzy or seasick, able to resist in a confined space for a long time. Approximate price: 1400 euros per person.
