Slovakia: Catholic University, new study room to help students with disabilities

(Bratislava) – The Catholic University of Ruzomberok opens a special study room at the local Consulting Center, with the aim to help students with special needs during their studies at university. “It is a gift from God. We thank all the people who have contributed to this project financially, materially or technically, and have united their skills to support students with disabilities and those who have learning difficulties”, says the rector of Catholic University (CU) Mgr. Jozef Jarab, adding that the disabled can often persuade healthy students that it is possible to make progress and work a lot in spite of handicaps. There are two specially equipped computer stations in the room – one of them for students with low visibility and the other for physically disabled people. “Several types of magnifiers, scanning pens, special dictaphones, adjusted keyboards, correcting programs for students with dyslexia and dysorthography, ergonomic chairs and supports, as well as the possibility to use the services of trained assistants – all this is available to make study at CU comfortable for anyone”, explains Katarina Markovicova, coordinator of the Consulting Center, hoping that the improved conditions will encourage more clever candidates to apply for study at CU.
