EU: security measures go on in the EU premises, but “Alert level” drops from 4 to 3

(Brussels) – After the Easter holidays, official operations tend to go back to normal in Brussels. From now on, in the EU premises the alert level gets back from 4 to 3 (yellow). This means that special security measures will stay in place, but meetings, conferences, visits will go on as usual. The presidential departments of the European Parliament – which because of its nature is the institution that is most frequently visited not only by MEPs, executives and staff but also by the general public – decided that “additional checks on people, bags, cars at every gate” will stay in place; parking lots will close no later than 10.00 pm; time restrictions have also been laid down for suppliers, contractors and service providers. “Meetings and conferences promoted by organisations or associations other than the EU Assembly will be cancelled as well”. The alert level, which will stay on until further notice, is such that the usual official operations and any initiative already promoted by the MEPs may be resumed, on condition the number of guests does not exceed 100, and all guests will undergo strict checks. New applications for events will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
