Portugal: third national meeting of the laity at Évora. “We show no indifference: between heaven and earth”

The Conference of Lay Apostolate in Portugal (CNAL) is sponsoring the third national meeting of the laity in the city of Évora on 7 May, featuring a series of activities on the theme “We show no indifference: between heaven and earth”. In the document presenting the initiative, the Catholic association says: “The current events, Pope Francis’ encyclical ‘Laudato si’ on care for our common home, and the Jubilee of Mercy are challenging the attention, wisdom, heart and action of all believers. They call on us to be united. They invite us to move to the forefront”. “We should show no indifference! To nature culture, society, each individual or people in general, beauty and splendour, evil, misery and suffering, goodness and love”, a statement reads. The CNAL is a “private canonical juridical person” approved by the Portuguese Bishops’ Conference. It was created on 19 March 2011 by deliberation of its founding members and is composed of “associations of believers, ecclesial movements and new lay apostolic communities recognised by the Catholic Church which seek greater unity of spirit and action in the service of the laity across the world”. The full programme of the third national meeting of the laity will be published on the portal www.cnal.pt, which already hosts a video presenting the event and will open for registrations on 30 March.
