Pope Francis: Angelus, “Special greetings to young people”. “I hope you will come to Krakow in great numbers”

“I greet all of you who have taken part in this celebration and those who are watching or listening by means of television, radio or other means of communication”. Pope Francis said this during the Angelus prayer yesterday, in which he recalled the 31st World Youth Day (WYD), which “will culminate in the great world Meeting in Krakow at the end of July” on the theme “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy” (Mt 5:7). “My special greetings go to the young people here present and extend to all the youth of the world”, Pope Francis said. “I do hope that many of you will come to Krakow, the homeland of St John Paul II, the founder of World Youth Days”. “We entrust to his intercession the last months of preparation for this pilgrimage – he continued -, which, in the context of the Holy Year of Mercy, will be the Jubilee of Young People at the level of the universal Church”. “Here with us today are many young volunteers from Krakow”, the Pope added, greeting the Polish youths. “Returning to Poland, they will take to the Nation’s leaders the olive branches gathered from Jerusalem, Assisi and Montecassino, which were blessed in this square today, as an invitation to cultivate proposals for peace, reconciliation, and fraternity. Thank you for this beautiful initiative! Go forward with courage!”.
