“The Holy See and the Patriarchate of Moscow are glad to announce that, by the grace of God, His Holiness Pope Francis and His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, will meet on 12th February. They will meet in Cuba, where the Pope will land before flying over to Mexico and where the Patriarch will be on an official visit. The meeting will include a personal talk at José Martí international airport in Havana and will end with the signing of a joint statement”. This is written in a joint press release from the Holy See and the Patriarchate of Moscow. “This meeting of the Primates of the Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church, which has been in the pipeline for a long time, will be the first ever and will be a milestone in the relationships between the two Churches. The Holy See and the Patriarchate of Moscow hope it will also be a sign of hope for all men of good will. They call all Christians to pray fervently for God to bless the meeting, that it may bear good fruit”.
