Eurobarometer: “Nine EU citizens out of ten in favour of development aid” against immigration

(Brussels) “Following new information, almost nine EU citizens out of ten are in favour of development aid (89% exactly, with 4% increase with respect to 2014). Over one half of citizens think the EU should grant the aid levels promised, while the proposal to supply more aid than stated is supported by 16% of citizens”. It was said by Eurobarometer through a survey made known today. EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica presented the results of the Eurobarometer survey on community activities in terms of international cooperation and development: of course, the refugee crisis and migration pressure against Europe have highly influenced the result of the survey itself. Data “show us that the vast majority of Europeans have a positive attitude on the benefits of international cooperation”, says a note of the Commission. Almost three quarters of participants in the survey “agree on the fact that development aid is an effective means to oppose irregular immigration (73%), while 80% of Europeans believe development is directly in the interest of the European Union”.
