Bulgaria: Catholic parish of Sofia, “Rays of mercy” to “bring the caress of God”

The “Rays of mercy” meetings for evangelisation will be held every week, starting on Thursday 25th February, in the Catholic parish church of St Joseph’s, in Sofia (Bulgaria), to celebrate the Jubilee. The events are addressed in particular to people who need “spiritual support”. “Through God’s Word – explains the parish priest, brother Zbygniew Tecza –, we will try to bring the ‘caress of God’, as Pope Francis calls it, to people who have sufferings in their hearts”. The initiative was inspired by a questionnaire sent to the citizens to decide, together, how to live the Holy Year in the best possible way. The co-cathedral of St Joseph in Sofia, the only church of the Latin rite in the Bulgarian capital, is also home to one of the two Holy Doors of the diocese of Sofia-Plovdiv. “For the other Jubilee initiative, we have divided the city, which has now a population of approximately two million, into four areas”, says brother Tecza. “We will hold one meeting a month for the devotees of each area, in turns”. Mass will be followed by a joint discussion to get a better insight of “people’s potential spiritual and material problems and give an opportunity to come out of anonymity”. Pride of place is also given to young people, who are busy in the Lenten practices, such as the Way of the Cross. A pilgrimage to Rome has been planned for September, instead.
