Holy See: Father Cantalamessa, “The Second Vatican Council is the tributary, not the river”

According to the Church, “The Second Vatican Council is the tributary, it is not the river”. This is what was said in the Vatican, this morning, in the first Lenten sermon, by father Raniero Cantalamessa, reflecting on the “Sacrosanctum Concilium” while also trying to “reread the Council in the light of its very fruits. “St John XXIII – Cantalamessa pointed out – wanted the Council to be ‘as a new Pentecost’ for the Church. At least in one point, his prayer has been fulfilled. After the Council, the Holy Spirit has been rekindled. This is no longer ‘the unknown’ of the Trinity. The Church has become more aware of its role and its work”. And so, “if there is an area in which the theology and life of the Catholic Church has got richer in the last 50 years after the Council, it is undoubtedly the area of the Holy Spirit”.
