Poland: in Lent, tweets “to rediscover Sacraments”. And an ecumenical initiative for families

Spiritual exercises on Twitter are a new initiative of the Polish Bishops for Lent. Tweets to a dedicated hashtag for one of the Sacraments are launched every Friday, starting today, February 12th. The initiative, promoted to celebrate the 1050th anniversary of Christianity in Poland, “is an opportunity to rediscover, starting from Baptism, the 7 Sacraments of the Catholic Church”, the spokesman of the Bishops Conference, don Pawel Rytel-Andrianik, points out. In Poland there are many and varied special projects for Lent. One of them is reading, for the Holy Year, John Paul II’s encyclical “Dives in misericordia”, promoted by the Light-Life movement. On a national scale, instead, the campaign “A missionary for Lent”, started on Ash Wednesday, aims at multiplying prayers in support of the 2,085 Polish missionaries that work in over 150 countries across the world. All through Lent, then, Caritas Poland along with its Orthodox counterpart – Eleos, and the Deaconship of the Evangelical Church, promotes an educational initiative for families, who must help old and sick people by giving up some entertainment or dainty dish.
