Germany: daily life exercises, “bread of solidarity” and ecumenical commitment for Lent

The 27 German dioceses offer their believers several initiatives to spend Lent in communion with the universal Church, in the year of mercy. In Ludwigshafen, an important industrial city in the diocese of Speyer, the railway station chapel will be illuminated to give commuters breakfast in the version “Bet and Breakfast – Pray and Breakfast”, with coffee and “bread of solidarity”, whose proceeds will be necessary for the poor of the city. The dioceses of Aachen, Freiburg, Cologne, Munster, Regensburg, Rottenburg-Stuttgart and Trier developed a common project from the first Lent Sunday until Pentecost, to give “Spiritual Impulses” through the Internet and social networks: every Sunday and Thursday, the ill or people at work will be provided with short meditations and excerpts from the Bible, at the site www.geistliche-impulse.de. The diocese of Passau proposes “daily life exercises”. It will be possible to register at the site of the Passau diocese in order to follow a daily path of prayer; on the other hand, in the city of Chemnitz (Dresden-Meissen), every Thursday an ecumenical team will propose meditations to spend Lent in prayer with all Christian brothers, too.
