European Parliament: Draghi (ECB) in Strasbourg. Immigration, Schengen and Brexit on the agenda as well

(Strasbourg) The priorities and emergencies of the last few weeks are confirmed by the agenda of the European institutions. The European Parliament will be sitting in a plenary meeting in Strasbourg today, until Thursday 4th February. The session will start late in the afternoon with the president of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, giving a report about the ECB’s efforts. Tomorrow afternoon, a discussion will be held about refugees, border checks and the future of Schengen. The MEPs will talk about it with the first deputy president of the EU Commission, Frans Timmermans. A pre-summit debate will be held the morning after, in the run-up to the European Council of 18th and 19th February. The MEPs will make their claims on immigration and the UK referendum about whether the country should stay in the EU or not. The president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bert Koenders, on behalf of the current presidency of the EU Cabinet, will take part in the discussion. In addition, during the plenary session, the Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Pierre Moscovici, will tell the floor about the EU Commission’s latest proposals about corporate tax (a directive to combat base erosion and profit shifting).
