Netherlands: Carmelite spiritual Centre in Harleem, a series of meetings about “The art of aging”

“The art of aging” is the name of a series of five meetings that the Carmelite spiritual Centre in Harleem, Netherlands, will be holding as from January. “We all age, but the meaning of such process is different for everyone”: the organisers write. “It may be seen as a process of physical, mental decline”, a time you lose your beloved ones and feel lonely, a phase when “you deeply experience vulnerability and mortality”. It is also a time, though, that can “offer new opportunities” for inner growth, looking at life with different eyes, and lead to a “new art of living”. The meetings will be in the form of workshops: the reading and analysis of fiction about aging will prompt discussions about one’s weaknesses and strengths, one’s approach to aging, in the attempt to learn “a few tricks, or, even better, to practise this special kind of art”. The course will also provide food for thought and spiritual guidance as support in this time of life. The meetings will be chaired by two theologians, who work for the Centre: Joanne Kruijswijk Jansen and Wil Simis-Goddijn.
