Council of Europe: Jagland meets Putin in Moscow. Tomorrow, speech for World Human Rights Day

(Strasbourg) Relationships with the Council of Europe, democratic security and human rights: these are some of the issues that will be discussed by the general secretary of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, during his official visit to Moscow, which began today and will end tomorrow, December 7th. The agenda of the 2-day talks will include meetings with president Vladimir Putin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, the president of Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, and the president of the Federal Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko. In addition, Jagland will talk with high government officers and civil leaders. The general secretary of the Council of Europe will give a speech at the yearly conference of the Russian Federation and civil rights defenders on December 7th. On the same day, he will organise a reception and will give a speech – expectations are high – to celebrate the World Human Rights Day in the Moscow premises of the Council of Europe.
