EU: “European Vocational Skills Week”. Events all over Europe. Thyssen, “a way to employment”

(Brussels) From today to December 9th, the EU Commission will be organising the first “European Vocational Skills Week” to “help discover, use and improve one’s talents and skills through vocational training”. A notice from the Berlaymont explains that it is one of ten key initiatives put forward by the EU Commission as part of the new agenda for European skills, presented in June. During the Week, the EU Executive will arrange initiatives in the vocational area; “the aim is to provide people with the skills they need for a rapidly-changing job market”. Over 750 events will be held all over Europe – in the 28 member states as well as in the EFTA states and candidate countries – which will “show the key role played by education and vocational training in promoting skills, employment, innovation and competitiveness”. Employment commissioner Marianne Thyssen states: “Education enables young people to have quick access to the job market and can be a wise professional choice for anyone”. Events include a European Business Forum on vocational training, a conference about “Adults’ skills”, a forum of the community of education and vocational training research workers, and a forum of education and vocational training providers.
