Berlin: mgr. Koch (archbishop), prayer in the Cathedral at midday for the victims of the massacre

The archbishop of Berlin, mgr. Heiner Koch, invited all Berliners to join in prayer at midday to commemorate the victims of the massacre that took place in Breitscheidplatz in the Charlottenburg district at 8.00 pm last night: 12 people killed and many more injured by a lorry driving with the lights off into the famous Christmas market of Berlin, which was crowded with people at that time and which has been held for 33 years. Archbishop Koch said he was “shocked” by the images of death coming from the market, and he will officiate a liturgy in the Cathedral of St Hedwig at midday in memory of the victims and their families. In silence and in prayer, Koch will express the mourning of all Berliners. In his message, the archbishop thanked all the police forces, the doctors and paramedics, and the care volunteers for their efforts after the massacre. Investigations are under way right now. Today early in the morning the Federal police confirmed the assumption that it was a “deliberate terrorist attack”.
