EU: website in 24 languages to learn about European integration

It is “United in diversity” in English, “Unie dans la diversité” in French, “Unita nella diversità” in Italian. And “Ühinenud mitmekesisuses” in Estonian, “Moninaisuudessaan yhtenäinen” in Finnish, “Ní ceart go cur le chéile” in Irish (Gaelic), and “Združena v raznolikosti” in Slovenian. It is the motto of the European Union, translated into the 24 official languages of the EU, which first came into use in 2000 and became official with the Treaty of Lisbon. “It signifies how Europeans have come together, in the form of the EU, to work for peace and prosperity, while at the same time being enriched by the continent’s many different cultures, traditions and languages”. The explanation is given on the website http://europa.eu/european-union/about-eu, set up in different languages to raise awareness among citizens of the history and current state of European integration, acceding and candidate countries, its rules and institutions, its symbols and other basic facts: its geography, regions, the EU’s cities and inhabitants and other relevant statistics concerning work, living standards, education. This information service, provided by the EU, is also aimed at schools and university students, workers, migrants, and local authorities officers.
