Slovakia: Presov to host National Youth Meeting in 2018

(Bratislava) The Council for Youth and Universities of the Bishops’ Conference of Slovakia has announced the venue for the next National Youth Meeting (NYM). The event, in its third edition, will take place in summer 2018 in Presov, a city of 100,000 inhabitants situated in the eastern part of the country. “The official abbreviation for this festival of faith will be ‘P18’, symbolising not only the initial letter of Presov, but also the preparation for World Youth Day 2019 due to be held in Panama, which also begins with the same letter”, explains Fr. Ondrej Chrvala, general coordinator of the event. “I am happy that our beautiful city has been honoured by being chosen as the location for P18. Indeed, it is home to thousands of young people who study at two local universities and 57 secondary schools; and it also has a flavour of ecumenism and fruitful collaboration, as it is the seat of three bishoprics of various Christian denominations, including the Greek Catholic Archeparchy”, says Andrea Turcanova, mayor of Presov, expressing joy over the announcement of the Council for Youth and Universities. According to its president, Bishop Tomas Galis, the event will offer young people the opportunity to “experience the universality of the Church”. Official preparations for the NYM will start in September 2017. For more information: www.narodnestretnutiemladeze.sk.
