This morning, the French Muslims invited Pope Francis to France, so that he can meet Muslims. This was told to SIR by Anour Kbibech, president of the French Council of Muslim Cult, who this morning led a delegation of French Muslims, who, just after the interreligious audience in the Clementine Hall in the Vatican, could meet and talk with the Pope.
“We have been honoured by this audience, which has been granted by Pope Francis to a delegation of the French Council of Muslim Cult. We took advantage of the occasion to thank the Pope for the many times he has taken a position, especially when he censored any confusion between Islam, violence and terrorism. He has shown that on several occasions and very powerfully when he said one cannot talk of Muslim terrorism. These are positions that mean wisdom and courage. We also took advantage of the occasion to send him the greetings of the French Muslims, and we invited him to visit Paris and meet the French Muslims who love Pope Francis”.

“The Pope’s speech to the interreligious delegation – Kbibech then added – was focussed on the value of mercy. An important value, especially in the light of the tragic climate we are experiencing, not only in France but all over the world, full of terrorist attacks and conflict. And it is important for the Pope to have repeated, with strong words, that, when you kill in the name of God, you profane the name of God. These are words that made an impression with the people there. They are powerful symbolic messages: by listening, the Pope blows a positive dynamics into interreligious dialogue, and into dialogue with Islam”.
