EU: Brexit, British MPs’ letter to Tusk. “Protecting British and European interests together”

A letter to the president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, in which 81 MPs and Lords of Westminster ask that an agreement be entered into to protect the rights of the British citizens who live in the European countries as well as the rights of Europeans who live in the United Kingdom. It is the BBC that relays such news, defining it as one of the latest developments in the long journey to Brexit. A move that shows that part of the British Parliament is worried about what could happen in the next few months and is anxious to protect the status quo, as far possible. “I can confirm that the United Kingdom has shown interest in a political statement, which shall protect the British citizens’ right to live and work in any one of the twenty-seven member states as well as the rights of European citizens in Great Britain”, an officer of the European Union that works with President Tusk’s office confirms to SIR. “The countries of the European Union do not like this approach, though, because it is a very complex matter that cannot be taken on its own but only in connection with the right to subsidies and healthcare, after enforcing article 50 of the EU Treaty, which formally starts the separation process”, the officer adds.
