Portugal: “I believe”, a youth project paving the way to the meeting with Pope Francis

“I believe”, a youth project born in 2010 to coincide with Pope Benedict XVI’s visit has been injected new life and new meaning in the run-up to Pope Francis’ journey to Portugal in 2017 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Fatima, by spreading the new motto: “With Mary, we embrace the world”. “We wish to join the Pope, to open our hearts to Mary’s claims, and to work for peace! We want to embrace the world with our prayers and with our hearts”, reads the document sent by the organisers to the press. One of the highlights of the event will be a “pilgrimage to Fatima to meet the Pope”, who will be visiting the sanctuary from 11th to 13th May 2013. As well as never-ending news about the project and monthly themes, which any interested people will be informed about by email, on 13th December 2016 and on 13th February 2017, vicar’s groups will pray “an evening Rosary before the bishops of Lisbon, to which all young people are invited so that they can join in the common prayer”. On January 1st, 2017, the International Day of Peace, the call is to attend the Mass officiated by the cardinal patriarch, Manuel Clemente, while on 12th March “all the young people from the capital are expected to gather together”. The eu-acredito web page says that “young people of many movements, parish groups, and diocesan services, along with the priests, make up a community that devises and develops the ‘I believe’ project”.
