Comece-Don Bosco: in Brussels, “What solutions for youth unemployment in Europe? The perspective of the Catholic Church”

(Brussels) To coincide with the “First European Vocational Skills Week” (5-9 December 2016), organised by the European Commission to “improve the image and attractiveness of education and vocational training”, the Don Bosco International association, in partnership with the Commission of EU Bishops Conferences, will be holding a debate about “What solutions for youth unemployment in Europe? The perspective of the Catholic Church”, in Brussels (square de Meeûs, Comece HQ) in the evening of December 6th. “In October, the EU Commission submitted a first survey of the measures taken to reduce youth unemployment”, the organisers explain. “Such survey found that the Youth Guarantee and the Employment Initiative have helped reduce youth unemployment since 2013”. So, in that evening in Brussels, Ivan Toscano of the Italian Don Bosco association for education and vocational training will speak of the Salesian experience in Italy in the implementation of the two European measures. Then, the “further measures needed to address long-term youth unemployment and the role of vocational training” will be discussed at the next debate. MEP Brando Benifei, co-president of the youth intergroup; Helen Hoffmann, advisor for social affairs to the European Commission; Tinkara Oblak of the European Youth Forum, will take part in the debate.
