Germany: Münster, Kfd (Catholic women’s association) launches a plan for supporting refugee women

As part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the German Catholic Women’s Association (Kfd), the diocesan group of Münster gave ten thousand euros to be spent in initiatives in support of Christian and Yazidi refugee women in Turkey and Northern Iraq. The money was raised during a big party, attended by 4,500 women, in Münster Cathedral Square. The diocesan leaders of Kfd gave the money to the bishop, mgr. Felix Genn, and to the organisers of the diocesan support service, yesterday. Parish priest Klemens Schneider, the organiser of the project, said he “is excited about the initiative”. Don Schneider has already gone to the selected area for the humanitarian initiatives and told about the tragic situation he found there. The funds will be spent to buy medical and first-aid equipment. The diocesan president of Kfd, Judith Everding, pointed out that “many women have been raped and shocked in terror and destitution”. International solidarity between women is one of the purposes for which Kfd has been founded. A tangible proof is “women’s peace candle” that the association gave to St Paul’s Cathedral 60 years ago and that has been burning since. Kfd will celebrate the anniversary of its foundation on 20th November with a Eucharistic service in St Paul’s Cathedral in Münster.
