The Netherlands: tomorrow at the Vatican 2,000 Dutch pilgrims with their bishops. Pope to receive book with the fruits of Jubilee

About 2,000 pilgrims from the Netherlands will meet Pope Francis in Rome tomorrow on the occasion of their “Dutch Day” within the framework of the end of the Holy Year of Mercy. According to the website of the Dutch Bishops’ Conference, “following the Mass in St Peter’s concelebrated by almost all the bishops, Pope Francis will greet the Dutch pilgrims”. On that occasion, Card. Willem Eijk of Utrecht will present Pope Francis with a book entitled “A welcoming Netherlands”, featuring a description of the projects that “Catholics in the Netherlands have supported, often in cooperation with other people of good will, since 2015 when Pope Francis made the appeal to open one’s heart and welcome refugees”, reads the bishops’ website. “The book does not want to be a showcase for mercy, but rather be a witness and an encourager”, Mgr. Hans Van den Hende, bishop of Rotterdam and president of the Bishops’ Conference, wrote in the preface. “Not only will the book be given to Pope Francis, but it will also be sent to all parishes so as to share this collection of common practices and cooperation for refugees”, the website of the Bishops’ Conference reads, that it may “inspire” the “active solidarity” of the Catholic Church in the Netherlands with foreigners and refugees.
