“Closure is not a solution, on the contrary, it ends up facilitating criminal trafficking. Solidarity is the only way, the only solution, solidarity with the migrant, with the stranger”. Pope Francis said this during today’s catechesis as he addressed the topic of migration. “Throughout the centuries – he remarked -, we have witnessed to great expressions of solidarity, although not without social tensions”. “Today – he added – the economic crisis favours the emergence of attitudes of closure and lack of hospitality. In some regions of the world, walls and barriers are erected. Sometimes, it seems that the silent work of many men and women who, in different ways, do all they can to help and assist migrants and refugees, is obscured by the noise of others who give voice to their instinctive selfishness”.
