EU Parliament: Shulz’s and Tajani’s wishes. Peace under threat, “the challenge strengthened us in our identity”

(Brussels) – “The new year is a chance to start from scratch, rediscovering the security and peace that, we understood, are not an absolute certainty. I wish all of you and your families a happy and peaceful 2016”. The president of the EU Parliament, Martin Schulz, posts a message for Europe’s citizens on the institutional website. He claims that 2015 has been “a difficult year for many regions of Europe. I hope everyone will draw proper lessons from that and will use them in 2016”. Antonio Tajani, interim deputy president of the European Parliament, states instead: “2015 has been the year that Europe, the values our society is based on: freedom, tolerance, the respect of fundamental values, have been challenged. This challenge has strengthened us in our beliefs, in our identity, in the awareness of our history. Hopefully, 2016 will be the year that challenge will be won, not only for us, but for all those who are in danger all over the world, persecuted for their faith, their ideas, their daily display of freedom”.
