Spain: “I want to become a nun”, Channel Cuatro tells the stories of five young women who would like to commit to religious life

Five young women who are considering whether to commit to religious life are the protagonists of the programme “I want to become a nun” which will soon be broadcast on the Spanish TV channel “Cuatro”. The programme, inspired by the Warner Bros American series “The sisterhood: becoming nuns”, was recorded by the cameras of Mediaset España that have spent three weeks in different religious houses in Madrid, Alicante and Granada. The TV has followed the vocational discernment of these young women in the context of religious life, recording their prayers, service, sacrifice, and sharing. In the spotlight were the sisters of the Congregation of Saint Mary of Leuca, who run a kindergarten with a hundred children, the Community of Contemplative Life of the “Justinianas” in Alicante, and the Sisters of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Granada, who are preparing for mission. This “docu-reality” wants to “show something real, tell a story, give voice to a fundamental concern of many people which only rarely is shown on TV”, said Mariano Blanco, director of the production, as he presented the programme in Madrid, adding that the show “may trigger a debate on this topic”. At the end of the six episodes, the young women will have to decide whether their vocation is to dedicate their lives to the service of God, or if they prefer to live their faith as lay people. The starting date for the TV series has not yet been announced by Channel Cuatro.
