Latvia: seven “seeds of love” from youth before the WYD in Krakow

“Seeds of mercy” is the project started by the Latvian pastoral youth service in collaboration with Caritas, with a view to the World Youth Day. In seven steps, Latvian youth is asked to seed love in difficult situations, poverty, and social exclusion. The “first two seeds have already been sowed”, said the site of the archdiocese of Riga: in October, during a day spent “with children with special needs and their parents”, and before Christmas, “with a feast set up together with the nuns of Mother Teresa, for the children of socially disadvantaged families”. The next seed will be sowed in March, by visiting the CESIS minor reformatory institute and the prison for minors in Iļģuciema. The initiative is named “Reveal your hidden talent”: following the example of Pope Francis, youth “will meet the guests of those institutes, spending some time with them, doing singing activities, improvisation theatre, and a sort of sketch competition”. In April, the fourth seed: “We are all sons of God”; it will be dedicated to sports activities for autistic youth; in May, “We don’t love with words and languages, but with facts, and in truth”: children will meet the children of asylum-seekers in Mucenieki. Finally, in June, summer camp for children with special needs. “All the young wishing to bring joy to others can take part in future events”.
