Portugal: WYD Cross travels across dioceses. “Journey of faith and hope”

Portugal’s national youth ministry office and diocesan secretariats have organised a journey of prayer and reflection with the Evangelisation Cross that will continue until the World Youth Day in Krakow (26-31 July). “This itinerant project is an opportunity for Portuguese young people who want to express, in a creative and courageous way, their connection with the evangelisation movement based on the essence of Christian life”, reads a statement promoting the initiative. To assist the journey, a guide was prepared providing details about the various celebrations, meditations, prayers, and other spiritual events, “so that the young participants may accept and live the logic of the Cross and proclaim it to their peers”. There is, for instance, a Way of the Cross with the meditations of Pope John Paul II, and a series of catechesis entitled “From faith to the Cross”, “The hope of the Cross”, and “The love of the Cross”. The goal of the initiative is to offer “a journey of faith in which young people are invited to experience and share their own and different way of expressing hope and their love for the Lord”. The journey of the Cross began in the Algarve region on Saturday, 16 January, and will continue across the Beja region with a stop in the cities of Moura and Grandola on 17-23 January.
