Russia: Today, Orthodox Patriarch Kirill commemorates the victims of the Sinai air crash

Today, 40 days after the air crash of October 31st, when 224 people died on the Sinai, Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, celebrated a liturgy in memory of the victims of the accident. The news is given by the news service of the Patriarchate of Moscow, which points out that the celebration took place in the church of Vladimir, Icon of Our Lady, in Moscow. “The primate of the Russian Orthodox Church offered prayers for the souls of our brothers and sisters who died in the air crash above the Sinai”, explains the notice, which adds: it is the “greatest accident in the history of Russian aviation”, when the “Kogalymavia” flight from Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg crashed in the Sinai peninsula, Egypt”. Today, memorial services will be taking place in many churches related to the Patriarchate of Moscow. “The director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, A.V. Bortnikov”, the Patriarchate’s notice ends, “stated that the accident was due to a terrorist attack”.
