Pope Francis: audience, without mercy even reform is “pointless”

“Even the necessary renewal of the institutions and structures of the Church is a way that must lead us to have the lively, rewarding experience of God’s mercy, which, alone, can make sure the Church is that city located on top of a mountain that cannot stay hidden, only a merciful Church will shine bright”. That was pointed out by the Pope, who, at today’s audience, explained the deepest spiritual meaning of the Jubilee Year that officially started yesterday as he opened the Holy Door in this very square. “If we forgot, even for just a moment, that mercy is what God likes most – Francis warned –, then every single one of our efforts would be pointless, because we would be enslaved by our institutions and our structures, no matter how renewed”.
