Czech Republic: Archdiocesan Museum of Olomouc granted the European Heritage Label

(Bratislava) – The Archdiocesan Museum of Olomouc – a joint project of the Catholic Church and state authorities – is the first institution in the Czech Republic to be awarded the prestigious “European Heritage Label”. The Museum is one of nine European places bearing this title that celebrates “common European ideals, values and history”. According to Nada Goryczkova, general director of the National Heritage Institute and president of the Czech National Jury, the aim of the project is not only to protect valuable elements of the cultural heritage, but also to “support educational and promotional activities that can effectively communicate the importance of a common European culture to the public”. The Archdiocesan Museum of Olomouc has a rich and unique collection of precious items testifying to almost one millennium of spiritual culture in the Archdiocese of Olomouc. This element is strengthened by the fact that the exhibition is displayed at the premises of an ancient castle. “It is a place with a deep spiritual dimension rooted in the European context, where architecture, art and human existence meet”, says Zdenek Freisleben, a member of the Jury.
