Poland: “Nightfever”, “Night at the confessional” in many cities. Mercy and Holy Year

“As you run, organise and tidy up your things, don’t lose sight of what really matters, don’t forget confession”, warn the promoters of Night at the Confessional or “Nightfever” in Poland, which is being organised more and more often, not just before Easter but in Advent as well. In Radom, on 21st December, Night at the Confessional began at 8.00 pm and ended at midnight. On 22nd December, the devotees of Kalisz can confess from 7.00 pm to midnight in nine churches of the city. Monsignor Lukasz Buzun, auxiliary bishop of Kalisz, calls the devotees to approach the Sacrament of Repentance through YouTube, pointing out that, even if “confession, often after many years, is not easy, it is however an essential step to experience Christmas in communion with the Lord and with men”. At the same time as in Kalisz, people can confess in the church of St Andrew Bobola in Warsaw and in four churches in Gliwice. The diocese of Swidnica will receive penitents tomorrow evening, 23rd December. Confessionals will be open until midnight in Plock and in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska as well. “Not everyone can approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the day”, explains don Bogdan Kania, chairman for the new evangelisation of the diocese of Katowice; “it is important, though – he adds – that, in the penitential rite, emphasis is placed on mercy, in the light of the Holy Year”.
