Pope Francis: at audience, “The Jubilee is all over the world, not just in Rome”

“The Jubilee is all over the world, not just in Rome”. This was said, off the cuff, by the Pope, who, at the beginning of the catechesis for today’s general audience, mentioned that “the Holy Door was opened in the Cathedral of Rome, the basilica of St John Lateran, last Sunday, and a Door of Mercy was opened in the cathedral of every diocese across the world”. “In the sanctuaries and in the churches” chosen by the bishops as well, he added. “I wanted this gesture of the Holy Door to happen in every particular Church, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may become an experience shared by everyone”, he reiterated: “In this way, the Holy Year has begun everywhere within the Church and is celebrated in every diocese as much as in Rome”. “The first Holy Door too was opened right in the midst of Africa – Francis went on, off the cuff –, a tangible proof of universal communion”. “May this ecclesial communion become deeper and deeper, so that the Church may be a lively proof of the love and mercy of the Father in the world”, the Pope wished: “May the Church be a lively proof of love and mercy”.
